SHIP Initiatives
As of spring 2025, SHIP has four active working groups: Policies and Protocols, Mental Health Literacy, Curriculum Infusion, and Connection and Belonging.
Policies and Protocols
The AOD Policies and Protocols working group focuses on:
- Reviewing substance-related policies at CUIMC, including individual school and program policies.
- Drafting a proposal to amend and align existing AOD policies with an emphasis on consistency across schools and programs, application of best practices, and harm reduction.
- Gathering feedback on policy violation protocols, including what is currently working optimally and what can be improved.
- Connecting with other entities at CUIMC and across the university that oversee event policy.
The Leave Policies and Protocols working group focuses on creating alignment and streamlining the leave experience for CUIMC students, including:
- Reviewing existing student leave of absence policies.
- Exploring best practices.
- Creating a central workflow document and inventorying information that currently exists on school and program websites.
- Making recommendations regarding policy changes.
Mental Health Literacy
The Mental Health Literacy working group focuses on:
- Proposing recommendations that reduce stigma around mental health experiences, treatment, and interventions, decrease barriers to accessing mental health support, and encourage and enhance help-seeking among students.
- Creating opportunities for skill building in the broader CUIMC community to effectively respond to and support students’ mental health needs, including an expansion of the Mental Health First Aid program.
- Using qualitative and quantitative data to explore students’ experiences with imposterism.
Curriculum Infusion
The Curriculum Infusion working group focuses on:
- Creating a shared definition of "student well-being" that informs the infusion of well-being into existing training and curriculum at CUIMC, and assessing student well-being using measurable learning outcomes that align with that definition.
- Proposing evidence-based strategies and initiatives that support faculty in connecting students to well-being resources and reducing any existing barriers to accessing support.
- Using Curriculum Mapping to identify where well-being is currently infused into curricula.
Connection and Belonging
The Connection and Belonging working group is newly formed and plans to focus on:
- Identifying opportunities for enhancing connection and belonging across schools and programs at CUIMC.
- Using data from LENS and other modalities to inform potential initiatives.
- Examining systemic barriers to student engagement and sense of belonging at CUIMC.
